Tks to Blueberry for making us aware of this opportunity     and

Twenty-four trauma specialists (e.g., Peter Levine) will present on a variety of topics having to do with recovery from trauma online.  There will be 24 sessions over a ten-day period including: Advances in Neuroscience, Attachment Therapy, Spiritual Psychology, & Embodied Approaches to Heal & Transform Trauma.

Note that the basic summit is free but there is an upgrade package which OOTS in not in any way suggesting/ recommending members purchase.

For more info and to register click here

It sounds great and if if is able to be accessed it will be wonderful.
I registered for tht organisation's last CPTSD summit and wasn't able to access any of their free content. I was, however, inundated with advertising from them and contiinue to be despite unsubsciribing and writing to them about the fact that I felt duped.

This may just be my lack of tech skills or something, just thought I'd mention it.

Blueberry

Thanks for that piece of info, radical! I read about it over on Out of The Fog, I didn't ever actually participate. I doubt it's due to lack of tech skills that you're still getting advertising. There are websites where i've unsubscribed only to be informed it's basically impossible  :stars:

Kizzie

Gah, I hope that's not the case!  It sounds legit but you just never know these days.  I will remove my tweet about this and the announcement at the top of this page until I can look into it

Folks, maybe don't register until I can report back about what Radical has told us.

Blueberry

Thx Kizzie! I was going to inquire at OOTF but I'll leave that to you now.  ;D (Progress, right?)

Kizzie

I've sent a Twitter out to see if anyone has info about it.  Maybe you could let them know at OOTF it might be bogus or at least not all its representing itself to be.

Sounds True is indeed a legit outfit and has produced a large number of very good tapes, CDs, books and other media. I'm sure the temptation to go more consumer-oriented exists, but they seem to have owners who understand those dangers very well.

Yes, they tend to feature guests on these 'summits' drawn from their own sizable stable of people who have presented commercial programs for them before. So it's natural they'd like to promote, even in a free program series, their for-pay ones to build business. I participated in a free program of theirs on 'self-acceptance' and it provided lots of useful insights from a variety of presenters; one just has to be aware of the possible attempts to 'remind' you that their presenters have other paid programs available through them as well.

I've also come across info concerning this summit, and it appears from what I've seen that it's oriented more towards therapists than usual, and having read lots along those lines, doesn't personally appeal to what I'm looking for now but may be useful for others who use this site and forum. The Sounds True presentations, though some are quasi-commercial, are pretty much in synch with those covered here.

That said, they seem to be well aware of the fine line between being an information-oriented company vs. popularizing subjects in order to profit from their programs about them. If one is aware of this, it can be a way to learn without investing any further unless one truly wants to.

Bottom line (ironic as that sounds) is they're legit, socially conscious, fill a gap, and usually feature only highly qualified presenters drawn from the ranks of people (therapists, authors, academics, etc.) in the field. On the whole they seem, even from my own usually skeptical stance, to at least give a peek into what otherwise is a scattered field to comb through in order to find useful pointers in untangling the mess we find ourselves in.

Tks so much for posting about this Woodsgnome, I do have my fingers crossed that it is legit because it's one of the first real efforts to include us I've come across and would be a good step in the right direction.

There does seem to be a noticeable upsell tone but then I guess we all have to pay the bills.  I just don't want anyone to be taken advantage of so would like to go into this with eyes wide open.

I did ask on Twitter and Blueberry has asked at OOTF to see if anyone has any additional info so hopefully we will get some additional feedback.

The response from OOTF is: "no experience with that particular summit but had listened to Sounds True stuff  done years back.
Anything free is designed to collect data and try to sell more stuff. If mbr is getting inundated, s/he needs to opt out or unsubscribe when s/he gets the emails. "    'There is no such thing as a free lunch' comes to mind.

(Modified message - I realised my reading comp skills were a bit off earlier)

OK, well it does seem the summit is legit and upgrading is a way of paying the bills and bringing in some $$ to fund other presentations.  It seems a little tacky, but I do get it given we have bills to pay around here too.

I'd say anyone who is prepared for some of the sales stuff can go ahead and register.  The only concern I still have is that once you register you will keep getting emails after the event, even if you unsubscribe as Radical has suggested.  If that's the case I plan to just reroute the email into my Spam folder.

I have registered and am looking forward to hearing about some of the latest research/strategies for healing and recovery.  I'm not upgrading though, just attending for free.

The key to all this is to be aware that one will likely get further email .announcements. Unfortunately that's the nature of living in a culture where what I call "all marketing all the time" is so prevalent and accepted. That said, I'm aware of thinly disguised marketing ploys that have even made it onto this forum until fortunately noticed and pulled by the moderating team (one reason they're so important).

But sometimes there are useful services that can be accessed, AND gotten out of, by giving a careful read to the info sent. With each email there should be a tiny sign out option at the bottom of the email. It says something to the effect of "I don't want any more info about this" or "unsubscribe" or something like it.

I've always found Sounds True to honour those requests, if submitted that way. I actually can't stand marketing but find Sounds True to have been an exception to this, if I grit my teeth and click the right 'don't bug me' anymore buttons. To me the info I obtained, even if free and even if it involves slight come-ons about other products, was worth the hassle of figuring out some of the issues trauma survivors deal with.

Maybe OOTS should have a "resource" category where legit and ethical suppliers of useful material could be the topic. While Sounds True remains honest and aboveboard (again, just via my experience), there are others who are not so circumspect.

Okay, I've prob said more than needed, but I'd hate to think someone didn't opt for helpful info when they can. Especially when free, as I also live deliberately close to the edge financially but need help too.

Blueberry

Thanks for your take and experience on it all!  Also for the detailed instructions on how to say 'don't bug me' - not everybody on here is Internet-savvy (myself included).

I agree, many people with cptsd live close to the edge financially whether deliberate or not and need more help than med. insurance willing to pay. Free information is good.

Just watched the first guest at the summit Peter Levine who is well known for his work regarding somatic experiencing  - really informative and insightful material from an authentic and caring  person

He is quite vocal that people can heal given the right help and tools so that was a very positive message to hear. Great way to start the day
