Title: good CPTSD craft suggestions, like the glitter jar?
Post by: Scout on August 13, 2019, 05:21:50 PM
I made a glitter jar last week (glue, water, glitter, jar--easy) and I have really enjoyed it. It didn't take long to do and still gives me a sense of accomplishment and optimism--like, I wondered if a stupid glitter jar would be nice to stare at when I'm freaking out, and it kind of is, and no matter what the * is happening, I was capable of making that glitter jar, and look how shiny it is now. Well done, Scout.

What other good, happy, easy crafts do you guys know of that are good for us? Easy, pleasant, doesn't-take-weeks-to-finish kind of stuff?

Glitter on, (and contain responsibly)

First thing that pops into my head is to make playdough. I haven't made it in ages, but it seems a sensory, grounding thing to make and then play with. Many recipes online.

Good idea with the glitter jar.

If you get some pine cones, peanut butter, some string, and birdseed you can make crafty bird feeders. You can make some slime. Or you could melt some crayons onto a piece of paper, make a colorful picture out of it. One that I've wanted to try is getting some paper cups, turning them over and drawing an outline of an object or person or anything you want, then taking a toothpick and making holes all around what you drew, then you shine a flashlight through the cup onto the wall creating an image that you drew, seems fun.

I'm not sure if this is quite craft since 2-dimensional, not 3-dimensional, but colouring in mandalas does me a lot of good. From the edge to the centre using as few colours as possible helps me re-ground and/or sort through what's going on a bit emotionally. From the centre outwards is a bit scarier for me, but I do it sometimes too.

Well done with the glitter jar! :cheer:
