Oh, you did not put fake book covers on your self-help books?   You know, with fake titles like "Needlepoint Patterns" and "Backgammon Strategies" and "Wood Heating Factors" on the spines.    ;D

LC and NC works even better....

Your start in life sounds like fingernails scraping on a chalkboard, like it was slowly painful.  With the Susan Forward Emotional Blackmail book, I get the sense that when people get highly stressed, which moves them into the fear space, that they do these hurtful, selfish things.

Kizzie
I love when pieces of the puzzle come together.

Emotional Abuse / "Just" emotional abuse
September 23, 2014, 02:21:28 PM
My childhood was a vacuum of what of was emotionally needed.

I am grateful to Pete Walker to detail this in his Surviving to Thriving book, that the core of abuse is emotional abuse for us all.   I did not have the outer layers of abuse that make me gasp and cry when I read many of the stories detailing sexual, physical abuse here at OOTS.

Your story took my breath away, Sebas.   I feel grateful you are here.   I'm so sad this happened to you.   I feel furious that you and your siblings were put through this.

There is hope, Sebas.   Pete Walker's books will help, the community here is capable of understanding and respecting you.    There is love when your heart feels safe enough to open to it.    Trust is hard when you've been treated so horribly.

And, I can only imagine it would be incredibly challenging to trust a therapist considering your step dad monster was a "psychoanalyst" (he did not deserve that title).

I think you are brave.

 :bighug: to you, Rr.

So much hurt in our recovery from various harms in the past.

I like what Pete Walker wrote regarding the silver linings of CPTSD, and I think of that as I read your intro.    Hugs.

Grace and Healing in your Journey.
