A PhD student, Dawn Davis from Glasgow Caledonian University is looking for volunteers to participate in a study about Complex Trauma survivors' experiences with healthcare. "The aim of the study is to explore what those who identify with having Complex PTSD want health professionals to know about their experience."

As you know this is an important topic we talk quite a bit about here at OOTS because CPTSD is still not well known in healthcare yet. The more information we have about what is missing from and what is working in healthcare, the better off we will all be.

Dawn is hoping to get enough volunteers for 2 Zoom groups of 4 or 5 people. The dates/times planned for the groups are the 12th of June @ 10:30am PST/1:30pm EST and the 13th of June @ 10:30am PST/1:30pm EST so you'll need to get in touch with her ASAP. Her email is ddavis301@caledonian.ac.uk.

Much appreciated!

I hope she gets enough participants. I'll be on holiday or I would join in.

I've inquired anyway. Apparently you only have to be able to speak English, you don't have to be in the UK with NHS experience, which is what I assumed on reading the title.

Erm, yeah. I used the term somewhat loosely because it is a long road trip with a visit to Mother in Law at the end of it...  ;D

Sent her a note that I'm interested but like NK not available at those specific times. Hope she gets a good cohort

NK - OMG, is M-I-L problematic too?   When do you get back from all the sea and road tripping?

Armee - I was thinking maybe I would see if she would be interested in doing her Zoom group on a Friday when Grp #1 meets.  Would you be available on a Fri at 9 MST?

Blueberry

She wrote me she's doing it in the evening UK time, 6-7 pm.

There's a little blurb to read, a pdf thing. Haven't read it yet, tomorrow I hope...

Armee

Next Friday at that time yes, this Friday no. Friday June 14th probably yes

If anybody's interested, you could probably still inquire and sign up. I haven't heard of an actual deadline.

The woman doing the research is very compassionate, calm and friendly. My dealings with her have been 'all you could want' well imho. I'm having trouble with electronic signature on the consent form and she's offered me a custom-made solution. Yes, it probably is in her interest to do so, to have one more participant, but still I'm impressed.

Throughout email contact and forms to read and forms to sign, there's the constant "it's OK to back out if it's too much emotionally or otherwise" (in my words). I find that re-assuring. If it's triggering, then your own emotional health is more important than the study. And/or no must. No berating oneself for not managing.

These days, thankfully you do not get approval to run a study unless you are/do all those things you mentioned BB. Sadly, some participants have been badly treated in the past so universities have gotten quite strict and well they should, especially in psychology. You need students to be compassionate and vested in the welfare of those they deal with.

I'm glad to hear it though.  Always reassuring!

Unfortunately that is the case. Look no further than CBC online news for a case in Canada where First Nations people were shockingly badly treated, not that long ago either. Big TW though.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the study!
