Looking for support

Hey there everyone.

I'm here to hopefully find some support and guidance as I navigate my healing journey with C-PTSD. I developed C-PTSD due to a history of abuse and neglect, starting in my childhood. Unfortunately, years of counseling did little to help me. It wasn't till the end of 2022, when I had what I can only call now an 'awakening' about the dysfunctional and abusive dynamics in my large family, and in particular that I had been, up until recently, the victim of scapegoating and narcissistic abuse, that I began to find some hope and healing. I confronted some of my siblings about their behaviors, and I've been low-contact with my narcissistic sister (my primary abuser) for over a year now.

This has helped tremendously in my healing, but I still struggle because I have no one to turn to for support. Even though I have a few 'healthier' family members, they have no desire to truly confront the dysfunction in themselves or in our family. They remain duped by my narc sister, who, to nearly everyone in the family except me, acts charming and sweet. So it's been a very lonely journey for me so far. I'm single and live alone, in a new city (away from my family, fortunately), and I've struggled to find community and support of any kind over the last year. I'm hoping, via this site and forum, to find, at the very least, some emotional support, as well as resources to aid me in recovery.

I look forward to connecting with many of you as well.  :)

Welcome to the forum.

I resonate with your story on so many levels. I know that feeling of awakening. It's like the lights come on all of a sudden and I can see just what's really happening. I'm sorry to hear your family didn't awaken with you. Mine didn't either.

I joined this community in 2022 for the same reason that you have stated here, to find connection with people who know what it feels like to be treated how we were treated. I'm happy to report that the people here did not disappoint. There is a lot of compassion and community here.

I've found it to be just what I needed, and I sincerely hope you find it to be a help to you as well.

I look forward to interacting with you and sharing the long and wonderful path of progress and healing.

Thank you so much, Papa Coco. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
