This is a great article which clearly explains what is the difference between general anxiety and that experienced by those of us with Complex CPTSD:

Peterson, V. (2018). We Can't Keep Treating Anxiety From Complex Trauma the Same Way We Treat Generalized Anxiety

Thank you for sharing this Kizzie. It is very good.

Made me smile,

I actually did live in a situation where alarms went off day and night.

A couple of years of that and your goose is properly cooked.

No wonder I live so far away from everything.

A very good article. I think it explains, for me, why CBT was mildly helpful but not a cure. The therapist was great, but he acknowledged that the therapy was limited. After all, if you have known from early in life how cruel people can be, you can't unlearn that. You can tell yourself new responses to social situations but it doesn't undo the harm done. I spent years trying to be sociable, but for me it was the wrong approach.

I walk my dog in the most lonely of places. I'm far less worried about being attacked physically or falling or something than I am getting into any negative interaction with someone.

As an aside, this CBT therapist gave up his NHS job and moved on to something else.
