Hi, I'm "Heather"! I joined the forum yesterday and wanted to take the time to introduce myself. A few months ago I was diagnosed with Cptsd by my T. I already knew that I had trauma as the Ts before already had a suspected diagnosis but never did a screening with me. I already had seen several Ts throughout my life due to my depression.
I've been with my current T for 2 years, but we haven't started any trauma work (EDMR) yet. In the sessions I talk about my current mood and how my weeks have been (I only see her once very two weeks). But I really wanna start EDMR now, because my Cptsd has been strongly affecting my everyday life. I deal a lot with toxic shame, dissociation and fear of failure, to a point where I would skip class and being so frozen that I'm unable to start learning.

By joining the forum I'm hoping to meet people alike and share some experiences and ressources regarding the topic. I also started a journal to track my progress.

Hey Heather, welcome to the forum. There are definitely like-minded people here, those who also deal with that toxic shame, dissociation, and fear of failure...
We hope the resources here will be able to help you, and would be keen to hear about your own experiences.

Regards,
Aphotic.

Welcome to OOTS! I hope the EMDR therapy goes well for you. I have never tried it myself.

Hi Heather and welcome to OOTS  :heythere:

Your therapist may be laying the groundwork for you to feel safe before starting EMDR (which is to help you be able to ground yourself).  You can always ask when she thinks you will be ready and let her know you're anxious to get going.

Anyway, I hope it helps you be being here and connecting with other survivors.

Thank you! I tried once with my previous T and it was honestly very helpful

Hey Kizzie,
thank you and that's also what I thought. It's important to build a safe bond with the therapist first in order to really start EMDR
