The Shame No One Talks About In Sexual Abuse by Dr. M. Rutherford, Aug 31, 2019.  Here's an excerpt:

In what was the most awful experience of their lives, their nerve endings had acted as if what was happening was normal. And they felt horribly ashamed. It doesn't seem to happen all the time. There are many times I hear about sexual abuse or rape, and there's no mention of any kind of arousal.

Arousal is not consent. Pure and simple.

The confusion is that the abuse is horrific, frightening. So why is my body responding as if it were? What is happening is horrible, invasive, criminal. You're not enjoying what's happening. Every part of your mind is screaming for it to stop. Unfortunately, the body responding can create a shame that lingers far longer than the shame of the abuse itself, permanently entrenching itself in your gut and your soul. You may never tell anyone, feeling as if your body betrayed you and that you have even more to hide.

Healing is having compassion and understanding for yourself and internalizing that whether your body responded or not it wasn't consent.

Like far too many stories of sexual abuse/assault by Hollywood/entertainment elite (e.g., Bill Cosby, Michael Jackson, Harvey Weinstein), the documentary "makes the case that Dylan was telling the truth all along, but was silenced by her well-connected father, his powerful allies in the media and a public unwilling to believe such a beloved filmmaker could also be a predator."

Start By Believing - This organization is dedicated to raising awareness about sexual assault, changing the way people and societies think about it, creating safe space/people to report abuse to, and encouraging survivors to report so that justice systems hold perpetrators accountable. They have some great resources for individuals/survivors, communities and police.
