Helping One Another
« on: December 12, 2016, 06:17:18 PM »
A member recently reminded me that holidays such as Christmas and other occasions like birthdays lead to so many of us feeling depressed, angry, sad, lonely, and I am starting to see more posts that talk about this popping up.  As such, I have opened this new forum in the hope that we can come together as a community to help each other with what can be particularly difficult days/times of the year.  The OOTS board is big and sometimes posts go unanswered for a while or at all, but it would be wonderful if we make an effort to ensure that is not the case in this one forum and respond to every post.

I have positioned this near the top of the board so that it stands out given it is new, but I will likely move it once the Christmas is over.

Anyway, let’s give this a try and see if we can be there for one another as much as possible over Christmas and New Years. If this goes well then perhaps we can expand the board to include other holidays (e.g., Mother's/Father's Days) and occasions (e.g., birthdays, anniversaries).

Tks everyone

This is a really wonderful idea, Kizzie!

I think the holidays are times that are triggering emotionally especially when we're surrounded by examples of what this season is supposed to mean to us. The imagery is everywhere. And it doesn't always look like my house (even the comedically dramatic scenes in movies/TV/Ads).  And nowhere else certainly understands what's going on in my head when I'm thinking something negative but trying to masquerade it constantly, I don't see that replicated very often.

That's why I like to come here. People here share those bits of their normal which helps me understand my normal and avoid doomsday prophesizing (sp) myself into a corner.

Again, Thank You.

Great idea to re-pin! Thanks. I say this as Blueberry Private and Blueberry Mod, in my Mod role I say it because it relieves me of what might feel like pressure on Dec. 24th and 25th to be available on the forum for others in distress. Not that anybody has even said that!

But it really helps thinking that each and every person on here can help others in distress, even by simply saying "I hear you" or sending an emoticon, which doesn't have to be a hug.

I hope we can all celebrate the holidays in a peaceful and restful way. We're stronger when we support each other, so I'm in.

Ok so it’s the 1st of Dec .. I can relate to Xmas being a fragile time.. I’m going to see my father next week and I’m wanting to take a balanced approach and keep my boundaries with him. I’m learning ..
I don’t need to caretake, I don’t need to change him with my words , I can look after me and as I keep boundaries I reclaim a little part of me back each time

Sorry to hear it didn't go as well as you would have liked Boats but I must say you sound quite resilient and that alone is good progress.  Glad you didn't beat yourself up

We're coming up to the 2019 Xmas holidays so I just wanted to ping this thread and ask that members try to support those who are having a tough go. It's so hard when we are alone and think everyone but us is enjoying themselves with family and friends.

We all know how tough this time of year can be so if you will please offer some caring support & connection to those who reach out.   :grouphug:
