Lately I've been experimenting with binaural beats and was going to post but out of curiousity I searched first and found Zazu had brought up the topic in another thread.

Here's a bit about it but basically the frequencies are either energizing or calming depending on the setting of the frequencies. It's helped me with my sleeping, relaxing, getting out of panic mode. I'm not sure if it might even be relieving the tinnitus.

There an android app I'm enjoying that has some presets but also allows custom creation of a beat session. It's free and it was the easiest to use of the apps I tested and has the most useful information on the science behind the frequency ranges. It's Binaural Beat Builder and has an icon that's a set of headphones with a blue zigzag between the earphones.

Has anyone else heard of or are using binaural beats? If so what app do you use and how has it helped?

I just noticed today that Zuzu mentioned this... I am going to check it out! ty

Hi Butterfly. It's great the binaural beats are giving you some relief. I don't know how to make my own, but there are 2 particular videos on youtube that I use every night. They calm my mind enough to use creative visualization, something that's really difficult when I'm under stress. (Creative visualization sometimes helps my mental state more than meditation alone. )

Oh you tube - didn't think of that ! Combined with visual that must be awesome. Would you mind sharing the links? No problem if you're not comfortable posting them but thought I'd ask. :)

Oh, no problem. Youtube has probably thousands of these videos of varying lengths but the two I'm particulary attached to are rather short. I just play one several times in a row, then I switch to the other. Beware, though, they have ads at the beginning - that can be a bit disconcerting when switching from one video to the other. I make sure I take the headphones off first!

Gamma wave 40 hz. isochronic tones

They both have nice music, but the theta wave vid has the beat underneath the music and the ischronic tone you can hear above the music. I think the ones with music are more pleasant than pure sine waves, which kinda make me feel like I've had my head in some machinery, lol.

Wow yes really good with the music added plus visual. Thanks so much Zazu!

Last night had mega trouble sleeping and tried the full sleep cycle preset in the app I have. Put it on lowest volume because yes feels like head in a machine. :P With it on lowest volume it was so relaxing I did wind up falling into rem sleep. Unfortunately the app quit an hour into the two hour track so I emailed the developer for support. However, I was happy with the additional hour and especially the fact that I managed to fall into rem sleep.

The one thing I have to figure out is that because binaural beats only work with headsets I have to find ones that fit comfortably enough to sleep. Although the buds I have were sufficiently comfortable that I did fall asleep I'm not sure I would be able to sleep all night with them in or for an extended period of time.
