Anyway, I did make some progress with sewing in that I joined a group who were learning to sew, and participated in it for a few weeks - and now I know how to thread the sewing machine and use it - I just need to motivate myself now to actually make something - so hope to look for a simple pattern and maybe practice with some cheap material first. 

I hope I can achieve something.

That's great to hear. I find it very satisfying to learn skills like this, for ourselves, for our own independence. Commending you for your efforts to get up and do that!
